About this deal

How often should I clean my cat’s litter box? Ideally you should scoop your cat’s litter box once a day at the very least, or twice if you have multiple cats. Litter should be replaced and the box thoroughly cleaned at least once every two weeks or so. If you’re sensitive to smell, the bedroom may not be the best spot for your litter box. If you have no other choice, use a covered litter box to mask the smell. Alternate spots for your litter box are the bathroom or the laundry room.

Disentangle the interactions between litter-mediated vs. rhizosphere-mediated PSFs. We already know that rhizosphere pathogens or symbionts play a strong role in mediating PSFs ( Bennett et al., 2017; Semchenko et al., 2018) and litter-mediated PSFs are gaining more attention ( Freschet et al., 2013; Hobbie, 2015; Zhang et al., 2016; Manrubia et al., 2019), but interactions and their relative hierarchy of importance needs to be elucidated. For example, modeling work showed that rhizosphere-mediated PSFs may modify or override litter-mediated PSFs ( Ke et al., 2015). Also, microbes in the rhizosphere can immobilize the nutrients liberated from plant litter, thereby buffering litter-mediated PSFs via nutrient cycling ( Miki et al., 2010). These findings indicate the need to study rhizosphere- and litter-mediated PSFs in combination (see Box 1 for an example) to disentangle their interactions and relative importance. This will require full-factorial experiments where rhizosphere- and litter-mediated PSFs are manipulated. Within such studies it will be important to carefully consider spatial and temporal scales at which litter- and rhizosphere-mediated PSF effects occur, as these are not necessarily the same. In addition (stage-structured), models could be powerful to further explore how litter-mediated PSFs could operate ( Ke et al., 2015; Campbell et al., 2016). Whisker Litter-Robot 4 is a technology-powered litter box that takes away the need for daily scooping. The price tag is significantly higher than other litter boxes, but its ability to provide a fresh bathroom experience for multiple cats is unmatched. If you have a multiple cat household, you may need to get another box. Cats sometimes become territorial about their litter boxes. Another box may encourage your cats to use their litter boxes instead of your plants. If you have to put the box in a bedroom or living room, just make sure it’s in a quiet corner. If the box is put in a high traffic area, it could give your cat anxiety and lead to accidents.Tighten the drawstrings around the bottom just enough so it holds on but loose enough where the rest of the liner can be flattened on the inside of the pan Indoor cats need a litter box to use the bathroom comfortably. Most litter boxes are plastic rectangular bins for containing litter, but there are many variations—top-entry models to keep litter contained, lowered entrances for senior cats, even automatic ones—that can improve quality of life for you and your cat. Rosie’s litter box remained in a closet in their second bedroom/home office for a number of years. But when Claire got pregnant, they thought it best to move the litter box to the living room since the baby would soon occupy that spare room.

De Long 1 Litter-mediated PSFs need to be investigated under natural conditions, with a particular emphasis on the contexts under which such effects are most important. As PSF research moves out of the glasshouse and into the field ( Kulmatiski and Kardol, 2008; De Long et al., 2019), it will be imperative to include litter-mediated PSFs alongside the more traditional rhizosphere-mediated PSFs when designing and executing experiments. Only via inclusion of litter-mediated PSFs will we be able to generate a more comprehensive understanding of PSFs and the ecological processes they control under natural conditions. Also, field PSF experiments allow for testing litter- and rhizosphere-mediated PSFs across larger spatial (i.e., at the level of plant communities) and temporal scales (i.e., multiple plant generations). Data Availability Statement My husband and I completed our first fixer-upper last year with my family’s construction company F.C. Batton & Son, it is a rancher that we completely transformed. We updated the layout and added on to it to increase the square footage along with a full master suite. It has everything we need and we were able to touch every room so we love it but it is a smaller space! So, when thinking about the litter box situation for our sweet cat Mable we were definitely stumped as to where we were going to put it. I did not want the standard litter box just sitting in a corner and we are hoping to grow our family at some point so the bedrooms are just not an option as they will be used as a guest room and a nursey down the line! I researched a lot and my first thought was to do a built-in or covered litter box that also doubled as a bench or something, nothing really seemed to fit anywhere in our house so again, I was struggling to figure out what to do. I finally came across a faux plant that doubles as a litter box and I knew, with a few changes, it would be perfect. Shape: While there are plenty of rectangular enclosed litter boxes to choose from, there are also space-saving designs to consider. Corner litter boxes are ideal for small spaces like bathrooms or studio apartments. What should I do if my cat is not using their litter box? When a cat stops using their litter box, it’s typically indicative of a health issue. Improper elimination can also be the cause of stress or anxiety. We suggest taking your cat to the vet to have health and behavioral concerns ruled out. Keeping your cat’s litter box clean will encourage them to use the box. You may also want to try changing the location of the litter box or buying a different style.

For cat parents who are interested in an inconspicuous cat litter box that will add a bit of flare to your home, we highly suggest considering this hidden cat litter planter. This covered cat litter box looks like a house plant but it’s a fully functional litter box! It has a large opening for your kitty to step in and out, and it’s equipped with a vent system. The vent is cleverly disguised under the fake plant moss. This covered litter box can fit large cats, and it will be great for multi-cat homes. Frisco Flip Top Hooded Corner Cat Litter Box
