And it looks like Ghostface has had a rough time of it because his mask looks a tad weathered and worn down. Taking a cue from the 4K release of its predecessor, the image on this release gets everything just right. If you're in the US, you can watch Scream right now by buying or renting it from the likes of Prime Video and iTunes, among other digital retailers. Scream fans in the UK have had to wait a little while, but the new movie is now available to watch into your homes again and again. They're all dealing with their trauma in their own ways, such as Tara choosing to not let three days ruin her entire life. But however they're moving on (or not moving on in Sam's case), their attempts at starting new lives are about to hit a dead end. Literally.

Scream VI 4K Blu-ray (4K Ultra HD + Digital 4K)

Scream VI has finally been unleashed at home in the UK after Scream fans were made to wait for the return of Ghostface. In the next installment, the survivors of the Ghostface killings leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter in New York City. This new 4K release from Paramount offers up the premium way to experience the film outside of the cinema – a fantastic transfer that thankfully remembers to include the theatrical audio mix means the viewing experience is as viscerally exciting as the film and even though the extras are limited, at least there’s the commentary for those who like that sort of thing. A decent release of a major Hollywood film from a major Hollywood studio. Premiering in March, the sixth instalment will provide the gang of Woodsboro survivors with a little change of scenery. Much has been made of this being a new kind of Ghostface, seemingly confirmed by the divisive use of a shotgun as seen in the trailers. You'd think it was just a marketing ploy, but the excellent cold open to Scream 6 will make you think otherwise.Being a fan of the entire franchise and of the last two entries in the series, I am most definitely walking into Scream VI with a strong favorable bias. But that is par for the course in any franchise, particularly in the horror genre. And frankly, that appears to be the whole point of this delightfully entertaining and surprisingly contemplative fifth sequel where the survivors of the previous movie must now confront the psychological trauma of those events along with facing a new Ghostface killer. In fact, the filmmakers essentially open the film by showing two reactionary extremes to that trauma in the Carpenter sisters, Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara (Jenna Ortega). While one sister prefers to ignore, disregard and refuse to deal with what happened, the other sister copes by becoming overly protective and exceedingly vigilant, seeing danger in every situation. Thankfully, the directors don't clumsily announce this with a heavy hand, but it's the poignantly subtle running theme that informs each character's choices and perspective on their current situation. The Faces of Death—Join the core four—Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding—and the rest of the cast and crew as they discuss their return to the beloved horror franchise. It also includes subtitles in English (English and HOH), German, Spanish (Spanish and Latin American), French (French and Canadian), Italian, Japanese and Dutch. Most, but not all, sequences are capped with brutal kills, with Ghostface showing a particular penchant this time around for stabbing in various parts of a victim's face. We also get the gory outcome of a dismemberment and a memorable unfortunate landing from a top-floor apartment, if the stabbings aren't bloody enough for you.

But maybe that was needed, to be the first wobbly step on the journey that would eventually lead us all to The Big Apple. A re-acquaintance to the franchise's iconography, it's tone and its personality (not just for a single film but for the five entries up to that point), a cinematic refresher to hook us all in and prime us for the real return of Ghostface to come. And return he most certainly did... Audio Commentary —Hear from the directors, writers, and executive producer as they dive into the making of the new film. Scream 6 — or, officially, Scream VI — arrives in cinemas a little over a year after 2022's Scream and presents an altogether different challenge. Stefania is a freelance writer specialising in TV and movies. After graduating from City University, London, she covered LGBTQ+ news and pursued a career in entertainment journalism, with her work appearing in outlets including Little White Lies, The Skinny, Radio Times and Digital Spy. We should get it out of the way that franchise regular (and possibly favorite?) Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) isn’t in this film. Campbell let it be known that she didn’t like the offer she was given to appear in this film, so she declined. While I certainly wish she was here, these last two films have been more focused on the other characters. Sidney is at least mentioned, so that’s nice. A lot was said about this being the goriest entry in the Scream series. I wouldn’t try to debate that as there is quite a bit of blood and violence here. We catch up with Sam (Melissa Barrera) who has relocated to New York City where she keeps a too watchful eye on her half-sister, Tara (Jenna Ortega). It is understandable to some degree seeing as how they just suffered the loss of many, but it’s also normal for Tara to want to return to normalcy. We get much of the returning cast from the previous entry, and this includes franchise regular, Gale Cunningham (Courtney Cox). Also showing up here is Kirby (Hayden Panettiere) who was presumed dead in the 4 th film. Well, to be fair, her fate was a bit ambiguous and she’s now working for the F.B.I. We see in the opening sequence that Ghostface is still very much active. There are some nifty surprises early in the film. It throws a curveball or two at us, but then things slow down a good bit. And there lies one of my issues with Scream VI. I just don’t care about these characters as much as I did in at least the first two films. You could argue part 3 to some degree, but this just feels a bit too self-referential that it became tedious and annoying after a while.

And it seems that the subway will play a central role in the new film from Scream (2022) directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

4K Review | Scream VI (Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray) | Blu-ray Authority

The move to the Big Apple (it's the first time a Scream film doesn't take place in California or Ohio) highlights another departure from the first five chapters, as Neve Campbell won't be returning in the role of Sidney Prescott.Whatever the frustrations, it's always clear that directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have true reverence for the Scream franchise and it's safe in their hands. If they get to return for a third outing to complete a 'requel trilogy', though, hopefully all bets will truly be off.
