The final installment of the new saga was released in 2005, and it ramped up the action significantly, as well as the intrigue. This was the culmination of the entire Star Wars saga, and it gave us what we wanted. We got the defining duel between Anakin and Obi-wan. We got battles between powerful Sith Lords and Jedi Masters. We got space battles, and Wookiees, and lots of drama. It was the payoff at the end of a long journey, and it was totally worth it.
If I were to describe the events leading up to this film as ‘hysterical’, it would be an understatement. Fans were eagerly awaiting this new film, the first new Star Wars film for nearly twenty years. It was always going to prove difficult to live up to the hype, but The Phantom Menace failed to meet expectations, with flat characters, lots of politics, and whole sections of the film that weren’t really needed. The battles were nicely done, but the general consensus of the fans is that The Phantom Menace was a let-down.
As well as Postman Pat, I play two other characters: Alf the farmer and Ben Taylor, who runs the delivery office. I also sing the theme tune, which I’m chuffed about. After Oleg and Ayana's return in 2019, a new advert series was shown called Endless Adventures, where the meerkats would walk into a door and find themselves in a movie (which are usually made up ones except for Farmageddon, which was animated by Aardman, and also features Alexander's voice actor Simon Greenall). The iconic characters from the first film (Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia and of course R2D2 and C3PO) all returned, and were joined by Lando Calrissian and of course Yoda. It was a darker, tenser film than the first one, and it is regarded by many fans as the best of the films. It’s hard to disagree with that feeling. More than a decade later, Russian oligarch Aleksandr Orlov and his huge and varied family of meerkat characters – brought to life by film production company Passion Pictures, and Director Darren Walsh – are still going strong. They’ve shared the screen with Nicole Kidman and Arnold Schwarzenegger, become cuddly meerkat toys loved by kids the world over, Aleks has written his own bestselling book (“A simples life: The Life and Times of Aleksander Orlov”), and that catchphrase (“Simples”) has even made it into the Oxford English Dictionary. In December 2022 when Oleg & Ayana died out, an advert shows Aleksandr & Sergei at an airport to collect Aleksandr’s Australian nephew, Carl, who turns out to be a wombat. A new slogan, "Don't Wombat it, Meerkat it.", debuted along with this advert, with subsequent adverts showing Sergei suffering from various mishaps as a result of Carl's bumbling.The meerkats were also known as fire rats. The meerkats observed the bounty hunter's group as they ferried down the river. Ayana first appeared in a Frozen themed advert in late 2016, and was a young meerkat whom Oleg appeared to have befriended in Africa. She speaks with an English accent. However, Carl had misread the recipe book and had put a pint of chilli powder in the soup instead of just a pinch. Sergei eats the soup and collapses, due to the amount of chilli powder in the soup. The advert ends with a worried Aleksandr watching Sergei being taken away in an ambulance whilst Carl reads his recipe book and realises his mistake.
