About this deal

To choose the best speakers for your computer, you first need to understand the most common types: stereo, 2.1, and surround sound speakers. Before we even start to talk about audio quality, it should be known that these speakers don’t have the physical air displacement power to deliver clear audio at high volumes. These speakers are only 2.8 x 2.8 x 2.8 inches, making them the easiest speakers we’ve found to stow and carry. You could probably even fit them on a compact lap desk. Of course, this also means its drivers are pretty small too. At 1.3 x 8.2 x 2.5 inches, it isn’t overly cumbersome despite weighing about one pound. It gives you enough length on its USB and 3.5mm cables to try some different positioning.

At the front panel of the right speaker, you have three buttons that control the volume. The one in the middle mutes the speaker while the other two reduce and increase it. There's no power button or switch. If you aren’t off-put by the boxy style of these speakers, they are a great companion for laptops and desktops alike. The cables are a very average four feet, but because you might need to position this speaker differently from a 2.0 setup, they would certainly benefit from being longer. This powered speaker set has been constructed with resonance-suppressing braces internally and a rear-firing port for bass clarity and ultra-optimized sound. This single speaker is low profile at 2.4 x 15.7 x 2.2 inches and is meant to sit under your computer screen. But its unique form factor is ultimately hit or miss.

Speaker Test

The speakers get decently loud on their own too. It’s not quite enough to throw a dance party but you can easily drown out office noise or other distractions with them. The sound is clear up to almost max volume, at which point you will experience some distortion. When you don’t push these speakers to their limits, though, they sound warm and balanced. They won’t have much bass you can’t expect much considering their size and price.

It features a linear class A/B amplifier and delivers a huge amount of raw power with an incredible 600 watts of peak power. It has been efficiently designed to provide well-balanced clarity across a broad frequency response with great bass mids and highs. The built-in woofer is 10 inches and has a 2-inch aluminum voice coil. It's also coupled with a pure titanium diaphragm compression driver and a 40-degree horizontal waveguide horn that gives it an ultra-wide dispersion. The Dell AC511M is yet another solid soundbar-styled USB speaker option. At 1.5 x 16.5 x 1.9 inches, it is fairly compact for a soundbar. That said, it produces a high enough quality of sound to make up for the higher price tag relative to other USB soundbars. The sound is bright and clear, with just enough bass to keep the mix feeling balanced. It gets fairly loud and has decent stereo separation to boot. Things that contribute to this are endless: good reflex enclosures, quality components, dampening measures, cooling measures, modern circuitry, low impedance, quality cables, and sufficient space to reverberate, to highlight but a few.Speaker enclosures have to successfully separate the sound waves projected forwards from those at the rear. Otherwise, the two cancel one another or they will be out of phase. This causes a bad bass response. So, for producing and coping with low-end sounds, most speaker enclosures popularly have a bass reflex design over a closed box design. But if you want to analyze your favorite song, you may find the low end a bit muddied by the present treble. The Eris set from PreSonus is a high-definition studio-level pair of monitors. They capably provide accurate mixes. Inside each enclosure is a 3.5-inch low-frequency Kevlar transducer. The tweeters are a 1-inch ultra-low mass silk dome high-frequency transducer. These speakers have a sound solid, a fairly compact form factor, and a surprisingly low price. Each speaker measures 3.9 x 2.6 x 2.8 inches, which is fairly middle-of-the-road in size. They aren’t quite as compact as the Arctic S111 USB speakers, nor are they as bulky as the Satechi Dual Sonic Speakers.

Many speakers support wireless connectivity or connecting via a USB, so you can effortlessly hook up your music production laptop, tablet, or mobile phone for digital audio. These speakers deliver great sound. Craving deep bass? The bass notes have a great presence, creating a real depth overall. This speaker set has dual RCA inputs to connect to multiple devices. This means you can keep your turntable hooked up for spontaneous spinning when the mood takes you. You'll find these inputs located on the active speaker. This speaker also features built-in tone control to shape your sound to your personal preference. Part of a laptop or tablet’s appeal is that they are all-in-one devices and don’t take up too much space. Thankfully, there are low-fuss and compact high-performance speakers that won’t diminish this convenience, such as the Creative Pebble V2 or Logitech Z120 Laptop Speakers. A little something extra for PC gamersThese are so small that you could easily toss them into a PC carry case or laptop bag in lieu of headphones. In-built speakers are often very quiet and produce only a thin, scratchy and tinny sound. External speakers are bigger in both size and power. To simplify the science behind this difference, larger speakers mean a wider frequency range is available – thus much louder and better quality audio. Whether or not its shape meets your needs, it offers some solid stereo separation and from such a small speaker bar.

Few things in life are as enjoyable as high-fidelity music. But as you've probably noticed, music only sounds as good as the system it plays through. Most computers don't come with high-quality speakers—and that's to say nothing of the tiny built-in drivers in most laptops. Even if you're on a tight budget, low-cost speakers can improve your listening experience in a big way. Or, you may be completely new to the speaker scene, and you might be pulling your hair out trying to work out which speaker features you need. From powered stereo speakers to passive speakers, you might have no idea which one is best for your space. Jargon such as " dual-angle design", "built-in amplifiers" and "silk dome tweeter" might look like an entirely different language to you. Despite their lightweight construction and small footprint, these compact speakers can handle 100 decibels of uninterrupted sound pressure level.

Why did Arctic choose not to name their square USB speakers Ice Cubes? I’ll never know. Instead, we have the S111 speakers, which are a stylish and compact option for USB-powered audio. They can connect to your computer via either a 3.5mm cable or Bluetooth 4.0 wireless. They can be plugged into your laptop for power but they also have an internal battery that lasts about 12 hours total. If you think your screen is too small, wait until you try to bump some music. Embedded speakers simply don't make the cut. You definitely need a pair of portable USB speakers for your laptop to deliver high-quality audio. If you plan to entertain in the home and need something a bit louder, you might want something a little more high-power with a readily available volume reserve. This will ensure better, high-resolution audio. Regardless of their tiny stature and minimalist price tag, they resonate great presence and depth. They have been calibrated with a flared bass reflex port to counter their compact nature and get optimal bass quality. They are a classic wood design and stylishly retro in appearance. The wood helps to accentuate the sound quality.
