About this deal

One of the big trade-offs with a golf ball like the Tour Soft versus some of thebest golf ballscomes with greenside spin. It was evident that I wasn’t getting the same level of spin control from close range as I’d expect from a Pro V1x. Whilst this comparison might seem a little unfair, I think it highlights what you give up if you decide to drop down to a less expensive ball. Overall the ball performed pretty nicely in the wet autumn weather during the testing. It felt good off the face with my driver and fairway wood, although on the greens it did seem to pop off the face a little harder than I would have liked. If you struggle with leaving putts short, however, this may not be a negative! Ionomer is the cover material of choice for two-piece golf balls. It’s also used in the casing/mantle layers of three-, four- and five-layer options. The bottom line is there’s a lot of overlap industry-wide with suppliers, those suppliers are spread thin and, much as you might like to, you can’t make a golf ball without ionomer.

First off, the Titleist Tour Speed ball. Right off the bat, this ball is designed for speed – and it lives up to its name. The new Tour Soft is the third generation of Titleist’s entry in the premium ionomer market. If you want the absolute softest ball in the Titleist lineup, you want True Feel but Tour Soft is designed to appeal to the feel-driven golfer looking to retain a little bit more speed and some greenside spin. Long Irons: This is a very similar story to the Driver. I find the distance is slightly longer with the Tour Speed than the Bridgestone Tour B XS, and without much difference in roll-out/spin. Again, I am not consistent enough to have some expectation of spin here, I am more focused on putting a good swing on the ball and hitting a green, with anything longer than a 7I in my hand.

I hit 10 of 14 fairways with he Tour Speed, but i hit all 4 of the par fours with it. When i mossed the green on holes, i was usually short sided, so i could bump it into the green side and it would hope like i wanted. The ball held up well. My drives were just as long as my gamers (AVX/ProV1), if not slightly longer. As an aging mid-handicapper (11-12) playing with single-digit guys from the tees that are probably too long for me (6700-6800 yards), I usually hit a hybrid or a long iron into the green on more holes than I should. The ball performed well there, flying slightly higher than the AVX, and with consistent distances. There wee times i tried to draw into a pin placement, the BX turned over where i figged it would, the TS moved about half as much. Long Irons: Again, I felt the ball performed well here. I had a couple of Par 3s where I pulled 5/6 Iron, as well as some approaches into some longer Par 4s, and I got the expected distance I expected. I am not "Good" enough to have a REAL expectation of high spin with the longer irons, so I am speaking really based on distance here, where I felt the ball hit my expected yardages with a good swing.

Thermoset Cast Urethane versus Thermoplastic Injected Urethane

Well, I want to see for myself as judging by the robot testing conducted by Titleist, this ball appears to be aimed at golfers with a ball speed, launch and spin rate that is similar to mine.

Bauer Media Group consists of : Bauer Consumer Media Ltd, Company number 01176085; Bauer Radio Limited, I felt like I really needed to do a comparison between the Tour Speed and my current gamer (2020 Bridgestone Tour B XS), to come up with some Pros and Cons of the ball, and to determine if this would be a better "Value" for me, given the cheaper price. Here are my thoughts:The Titleist Tour Speed golf ball features a high-speed core design, using a larger and faster core that maximizes speed and minimizes spin. It is constructed with a three-piece thermoplastic urethane technology, making the ball firmer and faster. That higher relative compression along with a 346 quadrilateral dipyramid dimple design (that won’t be on the test) makes for a surprisingly long golf ball that proved one of the biggest eye-openers in our 2021 ball test. The Titleist Tour Speed is specifically designed for mid to low-handicap golfers who seek a combination of distance, control, and soft feel. Its performance characteristics make it an ideal choice for those looking to improve their overall game without sacrificing any one aspect.
