About this deal

When you're browsing the best massage guns, ideally your purchasing priorities should centre on noise control, battery life and quality.

But does it have enough stall force to go with it? We know mini 1 had very little stall force to go with the 12mm amplitude. This change was eagerly anticipated by us, especially since we’ve seen that 90% of mini massage guns we’ve tested now come with USB-C charging. So Therabody is catching up with competitors. We finally have a convenient USB-C charging.

But isn’t the new Theragun mini just a smaller variation of mini 1? Indeed it is; you’ll still have problems holding it for longer. It no longer feels like a complementary device to the full-sized Theraguns. We were impressed to see how well-equipped it is and how significantly it has evolved during our hands-on experience. After spending time with the device, we give a thumbs up to Therabody for figuring out how to reduce the size and improve the sound quality.

Harnessing percussive therapy (basically pummelling muscles to massage the tissue without a masseuse) to speed recovery and help to ease persistent pain, Theragun mini is perfectly portable perfect for kit bags or taking on travels. Nevertheless, Therabody has done what many customers demanded – including more heads. What’s more important is that the device doesn’t feel like an upsell to bigger devices anymore. It can finally be considered a standalone mini. You can buy it as a starter device, not just a complementary Theragun. The massage gun has five different speed settings ranging from 1750 to 2400 PPM (Percussions Per Minute) – this indicates the number of times the device pulses – so you should be able to find a speed setting and attachment to suit any muscle area you want to treat. We believe the set would’ve been perfect if Therabody included the Wedge head instead of the Dampener, and the Cone instead of the Thumb. This is because the Wedge is perfect for scraping muscles, while the Cone is great for treating trigger points. The rounded Thumb just can’t do what the Cone can. Another reason the Go 2 doesn’t qualify as the best alternative is that the mini 2 is a revamped version of the mini 1. This mini 2 is clearly an upgrade of the older model. It may be the size of a small water bottle, but it’s brimming with impressive features. You get five interchangeable heads (most mini massagers come with just one or two) and there are five speed settings to flit between, giving you a whopping 25 massage combos to try. If you need some guidance, there’s a handy user manual, which provides step-by-step routines for warm-up, mobility and recovery. According to our tester, these were genuinely useful. Therabody is known for making high-amplitude massage guns. The full-sized Theraguns have the highest amplitude in the business. But it’s not just the big guns that carry a significant amplitude. The Theragun Pro comes with two removable batteries – each capable of lasting 2.5 hours on a single charge – and can apply the strongest force of the four at up to 60lb of pressure. It also comes with six attachments, including a SuperSoft attachment that you don’t get by default with any of the other units. This device offers a lighter touch, so it’s better suited to less intense recovery sessions or general R&R in front of the telly. On that note, it was one of the quietest models we tried, scoring almost full marks in our noise tests. The Bantam also features better ergonomics. It has a 15-degree angled handle that allows for a more natural and firm grip. It’s comparably quiet, but has a smoother sound.

In our experience, we found it to be a perfect addition to our existing full-sized Theraguns. It will perfectly complement the Prime, Elite, or the Pro, and you can take it on the go. The battery is decent on the Mini, with a two and a half hour life. I only needed to charge it once, and it lasted for an entire week’s worth of testing. Charging time was also decent — it took a little under an hour to power the Mini from a low charge to a full one. If your Mini is completely dead, expect a charge time of an hour and twenty minutes. The weight has been reduced by 25%, down from 1.45 pounds to 1.1 pounds. We did the measuring with the ball head attached. This is a significant reduction for a mini massage gun. It basically went from heavy to light in terms of weight category. The Hypervolt Go 2 may be considered the natural alternative to the new mini 2 due to the rivalry between the two giant brands. This one has a more classic look – it looks more like the Bantam but larger. The new mini and Ekrin Bantam are true mini massagers. The Go 2 is bigger and heavier.

Even so, the biggest improvement is the sound produced. The mini 1 had a harsh, rough sound. The sound produced by the Mini 2 was less harsh and grating in our testing, a marked improvement over the Mini 1. Apart from amplitude, the Theragun differentiates itself from the “massage gun” competition in two main ways. The first is its triangular handle, which offers a more ergonomic grip, allowing you to more easily massage parts of your body that might otherwise be difficult to reach.
