Oh Wow I loved these books following the story of Cassidy a 18yr old ballerina who falls in love with Max Butcher. This book is also available on Audio by the amazing Georgia Hart who does an exceptional job bringing Cassidy to life! Remember, the journey through a book series is not just about reaching the end but also about the memories created along the way. Also, something happens at the end that makes the relationship unnecessarily bitter and sad the hero goes to jail for a few years, so the hero and heroine are separated AND he misses the first few years of his daughter's life .

Max and Cassidy's relationship is the type of love story that you love to hate, innately they know its bad for them, but like a slut for punishment, they pursue it anyway because in the immortal words of Cassidy, "avoiding conflict to prevent a battle, can often start a war on your heart. These gangster-esque books need a strong female lead and not the wet leaf needy character of Cassidy. When i first started reading it i knew i was going to like it because as soon as i knew more about Cassidy i could relate to her in so many ways. To see Max soften for sweet, innocent Cassidy is a wonder to behold and will have you seeing heart-eyes while you swoon over his flawed perfection.Additionally, we occasionally include insights into the writing process, thematic elements, or how each book fits into the larger tapestry of the series. I won’t ignore the fact that I wasn’t a fan of Cassidy, even though I get why she was the way she was. Having gone through the myriad of emotions at the complexity of "Facing Us", I wasn't sure how Nicci Harris would top that but, I was pleasantly surprised to note how different, yet alike the two books were.

These 2 had it rough, but their unwavering love for one another was just beautiful, something good in amongst the darkness. Alpha male on point: jealous, protective, powerful, smart, cocky, and deep, with a single-minded interest in the heroine. If you like your heroes waving red flags, and your heroines enjoying all the alarming shades of them, then dip your toe into the dark mind of Nicci Harris.The build-up of Cassidy and Max's relationship is a refined agony, honed throughout the previous book and unleashed with a ferocity only Nicci could create. I don’t mind a ridiculously over-the-top pulp fiction, but I just couldn’t get over the fact that the heroine, an 18 year old Pollyanna who grew up coddled by her loving family, who is a professional ballet dancer, and who says “frick” instead of “fuck,” all of a sudden is capable of stabbing and shooting her would-be rapist then go on her merry way, still saying “frick” this and “frick that. She went from an asexual pigeon to a needy, clingy, whiny woman, almost addicted to sex and it just made her more unlikable.

I read this a while ago, so this review won't be very detailed, but this is a good read if you like the tropes of mafia, virgin girl / experienced guy, jealous /possessive hero, classy girl/ rough guy, and surprise pregnancy towards the end. He realises now what Cassidy really means to him and he will do anything in his power to ensure she is not hurt again.
