About this deal

Jason told us, "I'm extremely pleased to be working on this podcast with The Book of Man and Talisker. It is a very interesting read wich gives interesting insights into the stresses and horrors of war and mostly covers Jason foxes battles with ptsd and depression. Fox is merely guarding their privacy, which would have been fine and indeed understandable—they certainly didn't volunteer to be in the book—but if so, Mr. Recommend to go through this book, and take notes if you are new to this perspective, or even in this journey yourself.

He has also taken on charity challenges including rowing the Atlantic (for which he broke the world record), trekking to the North Pole, and rowing the Yukon river. Normally, there’s decisions that have to be made and moments where you have to calm everything down, but that’s only because sometimes as a leader you have the wider field of view.So a chance to join Special Forces came at the perfect time – as they’re often in active service, even in peacetime. The abrupt departure, depression, relationships, friendships, employment, and life are all explained. Going back to my Special Forces days, you’d speak to senior people who are running the show, and they’d say, “I’d hardly ever have to say anything. The programme first broadcast in 2015 is produced by Channel 4, and aired its fifth season in February 2020.

During my military career, I dealt regularly with fear, emotional breakdown, pain in hostile environments and the horrors of war. I used to be awesome at something, and without that I felt maybe my usefulness on the planet was over. At the point of starting this book I was in a hole in terms of my mental health having been diagnosed with PTSD and depression. It's been a mind-blowing few months expeditioning across Southern Africa, traversing some of the most remote, iconic and wild locations. The journey of the book is validating, the voice honest and authentic, the military history neither glorified nor airbrushed.

Every time Foxy goes into details about his experiences of war, his projects since, his struggle with PTSD and how he’s helping people through similar situations today, I was gripped. I've never seen any of the TV shows Jason Fox has been involved in so I had no preconceived notions about him before I started reading. Outside of his military career, some of Fox's bigger adventures include rowing across the Atlantic Ocean from Lagos, Portugal to Macuro, Venezuela in 2016 with four of his friends including Oliver Bailey. I’ve been involved in gunfights, really, really hardcore ones, and if we’re able to pull back and sit down behind a wall and have a rollie, and a quick 6 seconds to ourselves, that’s all it might take.He also takes an unflinching look at the resilience, teamwork and leadership skills required by Special Forces, as well as the lessons in dealing with pressure and the aftermath of stressful situations. I genuinely felt so inspired by reading this and also felt a profound sadness for everything that our military goes through after seeing everything that they do and feel so sad about the lack of resources available to them for help.
