Using the app, available for both iOS and Android, you can monitor the cameras via smartphone or tablet. Choose a date from the linear calendar at the top of the screen (of both the mobile apps and web portal) to display thumbnails of the event videos captured by all the cameras attached to the system. The Arlo Pro 2 works with dozens of other smart home devices via If This Then That (IFTTT) applets and Stringify flows, and can be integrated into a SmartThings home automation system.
Connect the base station to your router using the included LAN cable, power it up, and when the power and internet LED indicators turn green, tap Add Device in the app. Tapping the Mode icon lets you arm or disarm sound and motion detection, create arming schedules, enable alert notifications, adjust motion and sound sensitivity settings, and create rules for recording motion- and sound-triggered events. There are also symbols that tell you how much local storage is available and whether or not someone is in the room that you are recording. Let’s go over some of the hardware and software similarities so you won’t have to wonder what they have in common. But it turns out there are some features that I miss out on when my camera isn’t plugged in, like non-stop continuous recording, the ability to designate motion/activity zones, and the 3-Second Look Back.
