About this deal

When one of the son's jilted lovers threatens to let the world know of the murder, the son loses his sanity again and tries to kill everyone, including himself, on the moon base he is in charge of.

The novel has also been mentioned for containing "magic, fantasy, and heroic adventure", and was recommended to fans of Harry Potter as possible reading material after that series' end. Seeing the family last meeting and having to say goodbye was heartbreaking and seeing Joe completely fall apart after hearing that his brother is gone was devastating but Ed does leave them something good. Moonrise is the story of a boy named Joe who’s older brother Ed was imprisoned and sentenced to death for murder. By telling Ed's story and focusing attention on the kindness and grief of people who have likewise lost relatives to execution as well as the toll it takes on the warden and his daughter, Crossan complicates the sites of empathy and ethics around this issue, making this rarely told story a useful discussion starter. A reviewer for Kirkus Reviews criticized the novel for mundane writing, easy-to-confuse names, and the use of the words "meowed" and "mewed" instead of "said".While Joe doesn’t really want to go he doesn’t really have a choice as he is one of the few people who believe that Ed is innocent and shouldn’t be in prison let alone on Death Row.

Dealing with death row, this was never going to be a light-hearted read but it is powerfully written, utterly absorbing and makes you reflect on the society that we live in. Joe has what little money he has earned from his job working with his friend Reed at Reed's Uncles garage. Yet at the same time they are both grateful for the plentiful supply of milk in the fridge as well as the clean clothes in the closets. New relationships with Wakeling locals, all of whom have an attachment to the prison, allow Joe a retreat from the heaviness of his thoughts and room to recognize important truths: %E2%80%9CWe aren%E2%80%99t the worst things we did / or the worst things that happen to us. The reviewer stated that "Hunter successfully weaves character, plot, and good writing into another readable story".The main character is Joe, a seventeen-year-old boy who hasn’t seen his older brother in ten years, and that’s because Ed is locked up on death row in a prison farm in Texas. Não é por acaso, Bova foi um dos mais ardentes defensores da Hard SF pura, como romancista e editor da Analog.
