About this deal

The sibling bond between Arthur and Maudie was also so cute to see, as was the growing relationship between them and other members of the crew! I was at my last school for 4 years and we had ********* book fairs every term – and every term, I was disappointed by the narrow range of books. When Princess Ganzorig’s uncle falls gravely ill, she sneaks out of the Citadel to find a powerful cure, said to be guarded by the Serpent of the Sands. That is, it COULD have been a balanced story perfect for both boys and girls, except that Arthur does all the narrating.

It impressed me more and more as I progressed through and, as a teacher, I could think of so many creative writing opportunities for how it could be used in the classroom. It's engaging right from the start and takes you straight into the plot and the intriguing world of the characters. There were never any dull moments and not only did I love the idea of the expedition but I also really loved the whole mystery aspect that was added to the story. Brightstorm is Vashti Hardy’s gripping debut novel that was followed by the unique Wildspark This book fits the need of any confident reader, from adventure lover to readers who enjoy family stories. The twins don't believe the news, and they answer an ad to join a new attempt to reach South Polaris.

There were also a few scenes I'd have liked to have seen fleshed out more, especially towards the end of the book, as they felt too rushed. For our twins, this book provides a mirror of their own world with a relationship they understand so well. Yourself and Bob are much cherished in our booky world and I personally really appreciate everything that you do. I found the writing to be fairly clean but a tad didactic, but for the most part it was a solid story.

This story starts off with the Brightstorm twins finding out that their father has likely been killed in an accident (not a spoiler, it's in the synopsis! I loved to see them still keeping their parents in their hearts but also finding people who will always care for them and love them. Their father had been on an expedition to the South Polaris when his airship presumably crashed and the entire crew perished. Out of sight in the vast wastes of the Third Continent, she commits an act of foul treachery against Ernest Brightstorm. This intriguing book by Vashti Hardy engages with the reader and keeps you hooked whilst taking you on an amazing adventure. The twins know their father didn’t do what he was accused of doing and they are determined to become explorers like their father and clear his name. But their scheming, ambitious aunt, Eudora Vane, is still dedicated to destroying the Brightstorm family name, and the further north the Aurora travels, the more long-buried secrets are revealed. Brightstorm has quickly become one of my all-time favourites, and it's one I'll read again with great joy. But when something strange makes them question this story, Maudie and Arthur must set out on a daring journey to try and discover the truth.

All of our books are 100% brand new, unread and purchased directly from the publishers in bulk allowing us to pass the huge savings on to you!The death of Ernest leaves his two children, Arthur and Maudie, orphaned and homeless as an unscrupulous insurance worker informs them that due to their father breaking clause one hundred and fifty two of the Explorer Code all of the Brightstorm possessions are to be repossessed. There is such humanity and empathy in this writing, which takes this story beyond the readable to the memorable. Each character had such a unique personality and genuinely brought so much joy and character to the story--Hardy really crafts some strong characters. The basic set-up of the story is quite similar to lots of MG books: one of the protagonist’s parents died; they realise there might be more to it than that; they go on a miraculous journey to discover the truth; etc. The main villain was also well-crafted, and though she did seem slightly cliche'd to me at times, she still fit the story well and had some really interesting elements to her character and motivations.

It was details and additions such as these that really added to the adventure and excitement of the story and that made me enjoy it as much as I did.It does seem a bit like a Golden Compass fan-fic at some points, with the sapient animal sidekicks, and the general aesthetic is trying to be steampunkish but falls a little flat in the unconvincing naming of things (i. It’s a fantastic independent book seller that will actually be responsive and select appropriate books for you. The world is a wonderful place that kind of reflects the Victorian era with vintage technology and an absolute fascination of world exploration. The books sound great and I must watch out for them, but I love the story of your twins, and I can totally imagine the thrill they got from having a book dedicated to them!
