Ester, who has managed to bring up two delightful children while cooking so brilliantly in the kitchen, and front of house Saverio give the city centre restaurant scene a much needed touch of class. Service is attentive, without being obtrusive and the ambiance is perfect to enjoy the best food in a relaxing atmosphere. So a change of lunch for the baby means lunchtimes are back for all fans of VeroGusto, the very Italian restaurant on Norfolk Row, Sheffield. This was our first visit to Verogusto and it most definitely won’t be our last, it was truly an amazing experience.

I had no idea who he was until after he’d eaten for, in true Marina O’Loughlin style, Martin reviews incognito. It was obvious the absolute best ingredients were being used all the time, the preparation was second to none, the flavours out of this world.Enjoying food comes on so many levels: presentation, smell, texture, flavour and afterthought – reflecting with satisfaction on what you have experienced. It sounds pretentious to say you can feel the love and passion that goes into food cooked by a food lover who also happens to be a superb chef, but it’s true.

For me it all came together to make an experience I want to repeat and am happy to recommend to others. Vero Gusto sauces are flavorless, have no added preservatives and have no added sugar (they only contain the sugar that is naturally present in the ingredients). We were up near the cathedral and spotted what was then Gusto Italiano, a cafe with the smell of the most amazing coffee wafting out through the door. My hackles were raised and the waiter begrudgingly led us into the bar where we did enjoy a cocktail and were then seated at our table at 5. Expensive bottles of wine line the back of a long narrow room which once housed the town’s tourist information office but which goes back to Georgian times.We cater to both lunch and dinner, and our menu features an extensive selection of irresistible dishes to choose from. Quietly nestled between the cobbled streets of Sheffield City Centre, VeroGusto has stolen the hearts of all South Yorkshire’s fine-dining fanatics. To provide balance to this review, we all really enjoyed the food which was beautifully presented and very tasty. It’s amazing how three sets of people can be brought together by a place or event, however long it may take or unlikely it seems at the time.

Whether you are in the mood for a hearty bowl of spaghetti bolognese or a mouthwatering margherita pizza, you can expect nothing but the best from our kitchen. I was scared about moving countries (especially because I spoke very little English), but Saverio was so enthusiastic about the whole idea. And just to make me feel that nothing ever really changes too much, we were, once again, the last to leave.
