So, to summarize the above paragraph: if you are a Nikon 1 hater, please be kind or stop reading now. Reproduction in whole or part in any form or medium without specific written permission is prohibited. The J5’s lightning shutter lets it be used the same way, just without the suck of handling a slippery glass slab. i say “nearly” because some reviews on youtube showed up a better performance by rx-100 but anyways that’s not very imp and not the point. I enjoyed shooting with this little lens, it’s versatile and the results you could get from it is amazing specially at closer distances.

maximum aperture and a field-of-view that’s close to 50mm you won’t get that characteristic look of the classic standard-lens. The character of the bokeh is rather pleasant in most cases but it has a tendency to produce rough-looking details when you give it things that will trigger it such as twigs and foliage.Food photography is a nice application for this little lens since it’s really a wide-angle lens so you’ll get the perspective of one. I think it’s a neat thing to have and there are probably some use cases where it’s invaluable, but for me personally, the work involved in whittling down the extravaganza of files it kicks out is rarely worth the upside. Typical for most fast primes, the Nikkor shows some amount of fringing at large aperture settings, which can of course be reduced by stopping down. the engineering guys seem to have done their homework well and then it looks to me like the marketing guys came in and messed up everything big time. I have to confess that I don't use mine so much, being more of a wide shooter, or longer focal lengths, like the 32. As the light goes down this lens is not going to suddenly turn the V3 or other Nikon 1 into a low-light master.I think ALL digital cameras should offer the option of seeing a preview image with no information overlays. For example, the V1 has extremely precise metering and Auto WB, vastly superior to the both systems the E-M10 employs.

A cynical enthusiast likely wondered if the 1 system wasn’t hobbled by design to protect Nikon’s DSLR sales.

And camera makers don’t do what makes sense, photography-wise — they do what pumps up the margins in a shrinking market.
