Next, we had Crusader Kings II. At low speeds, the game wasn’t that bad but it ran a lot better on my Surface Pro. I was able to play one of my save files from the cloud saves where I formed Israel, made a custom empire called The Hebrew Empire and went around declaring wars on every Muslim nation next to me.

atomisp_ov2680: module is from the staging directory, the quality is unknown, you have been warned. Other note, I had to use safe graphics or the screen would blank & the install would stop, scroll down to the “Troubleshooting” entry in the initial grub menu to get to safe/basic graphicsI figured I would try a few flash games to see how it would handle games from Facebook and it did the job fine. No noticeable lag and was pretty snappy on the battery. I also tried to post on WordPress, edit files using SCP and so on and didn’t have any problems at all. You can attempt to fix this by following this procedure, but it will be much easier (although more time consuming) to install 20.04.3 and do an in-place upgrade to a later release.

Linx 10 - Pros & Cons

The speakers on this device are alright and are not something you would replace a set of speakers in your home for but it gets the job done. I was able to listen to some music without going nuts over the sound for an hour or two while testing YouTube, Netflix and so forth. If you are going to use this tablet at home in a semi-fixed location it might be worth getting a set of Bluetooth speakers.

I have uploaded it to Tweaked for your Pleasure as manuals have a habit of disappearing from the Internet.Setting yourself apart from the rest is a difficult task in the overly saturated tablet market, especially when there are identical counterparts sold under other brands, but that doesn't mean the Linx 10 isn't a robustly put together bit of kit. This is likely just the Linx WiFi not liking my particular AP, but I had to turn WiFi off and on again to get a connection. (I often have to do that in my normal Mint too, and usually only with my home AP. If I use an ESP-01 or my phone as an AP, it hooks up immediately.) Now both touch screen and accelerometer screen autorotation work but the portrait modes are upside down. If you have any advice to fix that I would be grateful. Out of interest I also tried the Stream in-house streaming or whatever it was called and it worked pretty well. Some hiccups here with the frame rate but it was playable.

There’s no such thing as a “hidden” folder in Linux really, apart from the convention of hiding filenames beginning with .. The problem might be that you’re looking in /dev/mmcblk1p2 instead of /dev/mmcblk1p1 while you’re investigating?These are more recent releases of Ubuntu than the recommended version, 20.04.3. However, they seem to have a regression in terms of their support for Bay Trail tablets in the installer, and they does not correctly set up 32-bit EFI and grub. If you install from an Ubuntu 20.10, 21.04 or 21.10 image or even the updated .4 release of the 20.04 LTS, you will likely find that you will boot to a grub rescue prompt and can’t get into your new installation. Do you know which part of the install it got to when you received these errors (for either operating system)? Do you have an old Linx 1010B tablet sat around doing nothing? These tablets were cheap, underpowered and are now very much showing their age; in particular they no longer receive Windows updates. If you’d like to give yours a new lease of life, consider installing Linux on it. If you are removing everything currently on the tablet, you can press the “Delete All” button. This will free up all the space on the tablet’s internal storage for your new Linux installation.
