About this deal

The Michael Edwards Fragrances of the World Reference classifies Jil Sander's Sun EDT as a floral amber (variation, crisp white flower), and I'm not here to argue that's wrong, but this fragrance is so rich, powdery, and spicy there's a case to be made that it can be pushed into the soft amber family. But when i seriously started te collect perfumes the overal cheap and easy image of the fragrance did not apeal to me. Impossible to wear this under the Spanish sun in any time other than winter, or on some cool autumn days. If you experienced summers in the 90s this is clearly a summery scent and it does smell like sun tan lotion. I don’t get anything really beachy from it, but it IS warm and the sun is warm so perhaps it’s aptly named.

Now after years and years I bought a tiny bottle again and I think my skin has changed ever since - it smells so much better on me now! Tingling, lively notes of bergamot, blackcurrants and rose wood, supported by a breeze of summer flowers such as jasmine, lily of the valley, orange blossoms and violets, have the effect of a summer morning.My overall impression is of a powdery perfume than anything summery or beachy, but that doesn't detract from its loveliness. The top 3 voted notes are benzoin, vanilla, and ylang ylang, and this is exactly what carries this perfume from beginning to end. or 10 minutes later, I get spicy playdoh from this, which reminded me quite a bit of Pi, which I adore.

I actually was spraying it around Stefan and asked him of his thoughts and his reply was “That smells like holidays’. Esprit d'Oscar has a sharper opening that's more ylang-iris forward, but as it dries down becomes more similar to Sun.I have so many memories connected to Sun - like everyone who was a teenager in the 90's in Germany or Austria, I guess.

I don’t like having lots of open perfume bottles so I’m always overthinking my purchases but after a long time of wanting this one, I caved and got the full size when it was on sale - but it’s SO awful? I loved this fragrance when I was 24, the year it was created, and I surely was not an old lady then, and I still love it now, and I do not consider myself an old lady at age 52. the closest I can come is that it reminds me of some sort of lotion or soap or even a perfume that somebody wore in my childhood.

We don‘t have too many really hot days here most years, but we do have them, and Sun smells like sitting on a beach on a very hot day, wearing sunscreen and eating a Curamaja Split (passion fruit flavored creamsicle) after spending many hours in the sun. I agree with originaldeftom when he says Jil Sander's Sun is summer in a bottle, and that it's impossible to imagine a better summer scent. I was a heavy smoker then, and this perfume does remind me of what I used to smell like back then- Bain de Soleil sun cream and Parliaments. It's a perfume that tries too many different openings one after the other and then quickly settles into a one note cloying vanilla nothing.
