About this deal

The current version uses a 3d printed shell to hold the BAs and combine the bores into a single exit to the nozzle. It was one of the characteristics that shook me when I tried Andromeda for the first time in my life. And, as many have reiterated over the years, despite not tracing any conventional curve, the voicing on the Andro just works.

I would be most happy if you stopped reading HFN, though I doubt that it’s ever been high on your reading list. The vocals are also less metallic (while Ara itself is not so metallic from the first point) and smoother, hence being an even ideal choice over Ara if you are particularly treble-sensitive. How would you compare Andromeda with regard to the mids and spacial presentation of a Freqphase product or the Velvets? If you didn’t this before now, you’ve failed as a reader, and I’ll take liberty in ignoring commentary from you, or anyone else that gets behind the idea that Campfire Audio, or Headfonia, is acting in bad faith.Mfrs need a qualified opinion review, not a review by someone who has no range of experience comparing products. That said however, it is a known issue that the paint chips on Campfire Audio’s products, hence the reason for the included protective shell pouch. When I had a chance to listen to the Andromeda at a local meet a couple years ago, I was not impressed. What catches the attention is the richness, the abundance of detail, and the incredible, natural feel of the instruments.

I got the Flare Audio R1 for free – I tried to be positive, but in the end I said the same thing as Headfonia – heavy blanket over the sound, insane amount of clamping force, etc. The Andromeda is ultimately still an IEM and suffers from the same limitations when it comes to staging. As such, though the lower and mid treble imparts great note definition in the form of emphasized upper harmonics, I don’t notice the upper treble “air region” extension of the Andromeda as much. You can disagree until the cows come home, but you’ve not offered a coherent argument for that disagreement.It’s a real treat to hear this rare, exotic species - especially as the MW10 has been described as the almightiest of the Andromedas. It has equally sharp directional cues but improved layering with better contrast between foreground and background. As a part of the set, you’ll find three Time Stream cables: 3,5mm, 2,5mm balanced, and 4,4mm balanced. As Headfonia_L indicated, no one works “for free” and it appears that getting to keep or sell review samples is just part of the reviewer’s compensation. There’s a cleaner background with a dip through the middle-treble to retain contrast and defined layers to good effect.If you would rather choose the good thickness and weighty punches (seeking more basshead sound, really), then the conclusion for weighting between two IEMs would end up suggesting Andromeda 2020 over Ara. The 2020 is much more coherent with much sharper imaging while the 2018 is a touch more holographic. The Andro is faster, punchier and slightly more defined down low while the Fibae 7 is weightier and more dynamic with slightly higher mid-bass separation.

This means that if you are using another IEM with your player and detected some white noise, that white noise will most likely sound a lot louder on Andromeda. I appreciate knowing that there was free product involved, but that makes me have to question whether the product was being compared on a totally level playing field. I should also note that I was comparing and Andromeda that had hours of play on it to an Andromeda that had just been unboxed. The real reason the current system works is because the mfrs are providing the reviewer the opportunity to enhance his resume with additional reviews via the new product.

Too much hot sauce is a bad thing, but when you need the hot sauce it will bring out excellent results. As a result of the increased upper mids balance, the low mids don’t sound as bloated either, despite the bass crossing straight into the mids. This allows for the emphasis/de-emphasis of specific frequency bands, enabling the ultra-fine tuning of a driver. I don’t know if Campfire’s refinement of the design will fix such issues, but the new body should at least have some impact on the sound.
