About this deal

Using exaggerated intonation and a sing-song voice (infant-directed speech) helps babies tune in to language. Prime Areas of Learning in the EYFS make up a crucial part of early development. These are then followed by more specified areas of development that are more structured in their approach. Helping children to master the 'basics' by meeting the aims in the EYFS Prime Areas of Learning encourages long term skills. Supporting them in developing these skills during EYFS is a way to help them grasp the underpinning skills they need to exceed in specific learning areas in the future. Involve children in making decisions about science experiments: what might we feed the plants to make them grow? Why do you think fizzy water might work? How will we know if one is growing faster than another?’. Active learning Strong, warm and supportive relationships with adults enable children to learn how to understand their own feelings and those of others.

When children are at earlier stages of development than expected, it is important to notice what they enjoy doing and also find out where their difficulties may lie. They need extra help so that they become secure in the earlier stages of development. It is not helpful to wait for them to become ‘ready’. For example, children who are not speaking in sentences are not going to be able to write in sentences. They will need lots of stimulating experiences to help them develop their communication. That’s why the time you spend listening to them and having conversations with them is so important. Creating with Materials - Children can experiment with different ways to make or present art. This includes looking at different media, like drawings or sculptures, and different materials, like colouring, painting, or building. The EYFS is split into seven Areas of Learning and Development. These seven areas are split into two distinct categories - three Prime Areas and four Specific Areas at EYFS. Children may copy your commentary by talking out loud to themselves first. This information is documented and this is known as the EYFS Profile (EYFSP). This area is divided between 'Comprehension', 'Word Reading' and 'Writing'. Each of these sections focuses on different skills relating to reading and writing development.
