About this deal

He carried all the outward charm, the charisma and the playfulness, but still managed to portray the suggestions of darkness that permeate this character’s heart. The story was originally inspired by Roald Dahl's experience of chocolate companies during his schooldays at Repton School in Derbyshire.

Amongst other things, Dahl was unhappy with the foregrounding of Wonka over Charlie, and disliked the musical score. This is met with predictable disbelief from Clarence Crump, Bertie Upside, and Terence Roper, who proceed to eat at least 100 warming candies each, resulting in profuse perspiration. Reception Costumes of Willy Wonka (from Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), and the Hatter (from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland) in London. Dahl opens by presenting the reader with Charlie Bucket and his family, confined to a small cottage on the outskirts of town and as poor as can be.One by one, tickets emerge when children purchase bars upon bars: first Augustus Gloop, then Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde, and Mike Teavee. The cover photo of the 50th anniversary edition, published by Penguin Modern Classics for sale in the UK and aimed at the adult market, received widespread commentary and criticism.

And in the process of these peregrinations, the disagreeable children mentioned above eventually face the consequences of their bad behaviour – always because of choices that they make while in the chocolate factory. The real surprise (for me) is that I can't give this a 5-star review because simply, for one of the first times in my life I can say that the movie is better.Time magazine in the US included the novel in its list of the 100 Best Young-Adult Books of All Time; it was one of three Dahl novels on the list, more than any other author. They are rightly ranked among the greatest classics of children’s fiction, stories that celebrate kindness, bravery and hope. Charlie is joined by four spoiled brats (who are slowly offed along the journey) and their terrible parents (only some of which are offed during the adventure). A video game, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, based on Burton's adaptation, was released on 11 July 2005. Each child epitomises gluttony (Augustus), greed (Veruca), pride (Violet), sloth (Mike), and decidedly deserves eternal shame and damnation.
